wicking sleepwear

Quite simply wicking sleepwear is special sleepwear designed to draw moisture away from the body. Initially developed for athletes, the technology has since been applied to a range of products including womens sleepwear.

Popular amongst pregnant women and women experiencing the hot flushes associated with menopause, wicking sleepwear has grown in popularity as it offers non drug based relief for women who tend to “sleep hot”.

It has also been adopted as a supplementary form of relief for cancer patients undergoing exhausting chemotherapy and other associated treatments. Whilst not a cure in and of itself, wicking sleepwear does provide much needed relief for those experiencing this condition and presents a risk free, supplementary treatment option.

The side effects of lack of or poor quality sleep are many, however often someone will struggle along or turn to sleeping tablets or other medication to cope, not believing sleeping in garments made from wicking fibres can actually help. Research has indicated wicking sleepwear can significantly improve sleep quality for those suffering from night sweats.

So how does it work? Dri-release? a popular form of wicking fabric is made from a patented yarn, with just a trace of natural fibers. The natural fibres absorb moisture pulling it off the skin and into the fabric. The synthetic fibres repel moisture, forcing it through the surface of the garment where it quickly evaporates as airflow moves across the fabric. So wicking fabric moves sweat and moisture from the skin, through the fabric and into the air much faster than 100 percent cotton fabrics. More notably, many wicking fabrics feel like just like cotton.

Wendy Eade, Founder of Eaden Sleepwear adds her own simple explanation “Cotton, the traditional fabric used for ladies sleepwear, is extremely absorbent, but it is this very absorbency that leaves the woman suffering from night sweats feeling cold and wet. Wicking sleepwear combines various fibres, blended together in such a way, it simply transports the moisture through the fabric and away from the body leaving the wearer feeling cool and dry”.
